The story behind Yosso Sports Foundation — the challenge we exist to meet, how we began, and the mission and vision that guide everything we do.
YOSSO Sports Foundation is a national, non-profit youth development organisation in Tanzania. We combine sport with education, mentorship, life skills, entrepreneurship, safeguarding and community engagement. Our work is sport-centred but community-driven — children and youth are our primary focus, yet the benefit reaches the whole community.
The intentional use of sport, physical activity and play to attain specific development and peace objectives (Kazan Action Plan). It is the approach that shapes every part of our work. From football sessions to safeguarding policy, every programme starts as sport first — then opens onto the mentorship, education, health and community outcomes that follow from it.
Children and Youth in Songwe face persistent poverty and limited opportunities. Many lack access to structured mentorship and safe environments for development. This results in idle youth, wasted talent, and increased social risk. Yosso Sports Foundation addresses this challenge at the community level. We use football as an organized and inclusive development platform.
Yosso Sports Foundation began in 2016 as Yosso Soccer Center (YSC). Following formal registration in 2022, the organization evolved into Yosso Sports Foundation (YSF). The focus expanded to institutional development and accountable operations. Early implementation years were used to build systems, policies, and capacity.
